PENANG HOKKEIN MEE @ YONG LEN
Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
My friend Ethan, a Penangite resident to Singapore, was in KL for some business and called me up "Hey! Let's go Yong Len for the Penang Hokkein Mee" - Yong Len Hokkein mee is that well known in the Klang valley. It's about the only two that can rival those in Penang.

Penang Hokkein Mee is a street fare consisting of Chinese noodles, vermicelli, bean sprouts & kankong (water convolvulus) in a steaming bowl of prawn stock soup. Fried shallots is sprinkled on top and additional ground chilli is provided for those who wants the additional zing! It is sometimes also referred to as Hokkein Prawn Mee or Mee Yoke

This Hokkein stall has been operated by Ah Chye and Ai Chin since the mid-1980s. Both of them are from Penang (where else?). And I have been eating at their stall since then, their mee is that good for me to loyally patronize it for close to 30yrs.

Ah Chye's Hokkein Mee' soup is definitively up to par, with a sure taste of the prawn flavor. They do not stinged on the sliced pork or the medium-sized prawns. The beans sprout are just adequately cooked to give it that crunchy bite. If you need additional fried shallots, just ask and it will be given.
