Albertina Museum Vienna
September 2015
I always like museums and I like art galleries very much too. So while on a vacation in Austria, I jumped upon the opportunity to visit the Albertina in Vienna. See, it's both a museum and a gallery.
The Albertina, then called the Palais Taroucca, was the former residence of Duke Albert of Saxen-Teschen who brought his collection of artwork and artefacts over Brussels and had it displayed at his home. His successors further expanded the collection. In 1919 the ownership of the building and its collection passed from the Hasburgs to the newly formed Republic of Austria and a year later the collection of prints and drawings were united with the collection from the imperial court library. The name Albertina was established in 1921.

The museum contains approximately 65,000 pieces of drawings and other artwork. Some are stored up but many are displayed in its various sections. As a guide, above is a plan showing the various sections  Due to photography angle and shadow, I had cropped some of the photos; so some of the photo may not show the full painting. It's best to go to the museum and view the paintings to fully appreciate them.
I had managed to photograph a fair number of those on display, they are too many to put into a single blog. Below are the blogs based on the individual sections, click on the respective photo to view:
