Footsteps - Jotaro's Travels
Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm
Malaysia being a tropical country is hot, for those who want to get away from the heat there are several hill resorts - Larut Hills, Fraser Hills and Genting Highlands. Up on these highlands, the temperature gets cooler. It may not be the temperates but it does get close, there are even pine trees and other temperate plants growing healthily.
At Genting Highlands, there's even a strawberry farm to add on to the temperate experience.
The Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm has just more than strawberries. The above map at the entrance shows the strawberry farm at the centre and a lavender garden on the left. On the right is a rose garden and gardens for other flowers. There's even a mushroom farm, a honey-bee farm, a section to view snakes. Near the exit are a fresh vegetable market, souvenirs stalls, etc. It's a total experience here, there is much to see and slowly admire. We did not have that much time and missed out visiting some sections.
THE STRAWBERRY FARM
The strawberry farm takes up a major section of this leisure farm with rows and rows of strawberry plants planted on shelves within a green-house.
On the shelves a bags of fertile soil, within each four strawberry plants grow.
In the cool temperature of the highland and protected from any tropical rain within the green house, strawberries grow lusciously.
A close up look at one of the strawberries; looks good enough to pluck?
In fact one can pluck the strawberries, just get a basket from the counter and pluck as much as you want and pay RM8:00 per 100g of your harvest. Not sure which ones to pick, click here for tips on plucking strawberries.
Not up to plucking your own, then get these fresh pre-packed strawberries at the Strawberry Mart inside.
Other than fresh strawberries, the Mart also sells jams, juices, lillipops, dolls and other souvenir items, etc.
And purple/lavender coloured dolls for the young ones.
THE FLOWER GARDENS
The Lavender Garden.
Close up look at Lavender flowers.
A field of purple Gomphrenas, these are small flowers...
... but when looked at very closely, more of their beauty emerges.
It's wonderful how these flowers unfold their layers, take this pink Gerberas Daisy for example. It looks beautiful now...
Look closely and another layer unfolds...
... look even more closely and more beauty is revealed.
In the cool temperatures here, flowers grow much better and their colours radiate out even more vividly.
A pink Geranium with the red veins of its petals forming a star pattern.
A close look at purple Statice.
Not only are the flowers on the beds, hanging from the ceiling above are Begonias.
Hanging from above, they complete the picture of a colourful scenery. Many stopped to take their photos here.
Hanging there too is this Jade Vine in a rare bright pastel blue colour.
Put two of this side by side and they formed a butterfly.
OTHER ATTRACTIONS
There seems to be a Bee Farm & Insect World section. But I could not find it and only saw on display a dried out bee-hive with preserved bees and also a dried out honeycomb.
No bee farm but there were certainly bee produce like wild honey...
... and bee pollen.
The mushroom farm is within a large dark room. Rows of shelves have these containers which probably contained damp earth. From one end mushrooms grow out.
I only saw on type of mushroom, which looks good from the bottom too.
