PENANG STREET HAWKER FOOD @ PG CAFE, KLANG
Klang, Selangor, Malaysia - June 2014
Are you going to or staying in Klang and looking for some food other than Bak Kut Teh to sink you teeth into? Why not try some Penang food at PG Cafe? Yes, they do serve Penang hawker food, and a large choice of different types at that!

PLEASE NOTE: THIS PLACE HAS CLOSED DOWN

I was down in Klang for the opening of PG Cafe (Penang Cafe), a restaurant offering Penang food in Klang. They were celebrating their gala opening from 5:00pm to 10:00pm.

When we arrived at about eightish, it was really crowded. The place have three sections, a large outdoor section, a smaller air-conditioned indoor section and a pool room at the first floor. All sections were packed and we were lucky to get a table within fifteen minutes.

Long queue at the Char Keow Teow counter.
It was their opening night and they were serving free food and drinks (even beers)! Locals and friends were keen to try out their food. They have two counters serving food, one specially for Char Keow Teow; both counters had long queue of people waiting to order their food.

The other counter serving food. Indoors there is another counter serving drinks and breakfast food.

With the large, hungry crowd of patrons, most of the food were sold out by then. Still we managed to order some food like the Char Keow Teow above. Taste wise it was fairly good. I believe it could have been better as the fryer (the boss of the place itself, Mr.Khoo Kar Jin) had been frying plate after plate for more than four hours.

The Penang Curry Mee. The curry was the White Curry Mee Style, it was okay too but lacked that bit of spiciness.

Unfortunately, they did not manage to get the Penang style tau-pok which had a stronger burnt tofu aroma. The cuttlefish was food though, soft and easily biteable.

The best dish I had was this Penang Keow Teow Soup. The soup was real tasty and most important of all, it had deep fried lard bits.

The slices of fish cake was okay but the fish ball was lacking in that fishy taste, and the slices of pork shoulder meat was a tad too thick.
Too do them justice, I think because of serving the large crowd of patrons at this opening night the food was not up to their usual standards.

For desserts we had White Fungus with Gingko Seeds that also came with some dried longan.

One thing that should not be missed is this Nutmeg Juice. They had a strong nutmeg flavour with a oomphy bite on the tongue. It is a close as it gets to the freshly blended nutmeg juice found in Balik Pulau, Penang.

A look at their wall menu showed that they have more to offer than just the regular street food. There is Nyonya Nasi Lemak, Pig Trotters Stew, Sour Pig Trotters, Chop Suey With Roasted Pig Trotters and even Pork Belly Soup!

This other dish - the Meat Floss Cheese Bread - looks tempting! I did not get to try it as it's on their breakfast menu and is served only in the morning.
