THAI WANTAN NOODLES @ PRATUNAM
Bangkok, Thailand
While on a quick trip to Bangkok (... see One Night In Bangkok blog), we were staying in the Pratunam area which has this nice wantan noodles stall.
The stall occupies the open front of the shop and customers can eat in the enclosed air-conditioned comfort behind this open section.
Their client is a good balance mix of tourists and locals - if the locals frequent this place then it can't be wrong, and the pricing is the same for both locals & foreigners.
Both the soup & dry "kon-loh" noodles are sold and are served with boiled wantans and slices of "char siew" barbecued pork.
Needing something to warm up my hungry stomach, I went for the soup noodles. Their barbecued pork did not seem as appetizing as those from Kuala Lumpur; so I skipped them.
I requested them to add in more lard fritters, this is sinful but really good. And following the local style of eating, I threw in a good helping of chili powder to spice things up.
The noodles themselves were bitey and slightly bouncy good; and they were very generous with their wantans.
What they lack in the "char siew", they made up with their wantans. These were of a good size and filled with a generous dose of tasty, juicy minced pork. I just love them.
In the same shop, another stall serves succulently good stewed pig trotters with pig tripe (... see more).
