SOY BEAN MILK & CURD @ FUNNY MOUNTAIN

Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia - 9th February, 2013

Ipoh is well known for it's crunchy, fat & short bean sprouts. It's is rumored that the spring water from the limestone hills is the secret to the bean sprouts uniqueness.

It is perhaps this same spring water that makes the soy bean curd in Ipoh soft and smooth too. One of the best soy bean milk here is the one from Funny Mountain, a funny name but nevertheless they serve one of the best!

Up in Kampar for a cycling event (see UTAR Ride 4 Charity), we came to Ipoh to savor this.

The stall used to occupy a small little corner at the back of a shop lot. Patrons would either stand around or sit in their cars to savor this delicacy.

Now the stall has expanded to double it's size and there are tables for people to eat in. A large green awning has also been erected to protect the patrons from the sun & rain.

A big barrel of soy bean curd (tau foo fah) is soon finished, the next barrel will be out soon. The soy bean curd is soft and smooth. Sugar syrup is added when served to sweeten this dessert.

But the crowd just keeps on coming and a long queue forms.

And the vendor auntie just can't seem to funnel soy bean milk into bottles fast enough for the take-aways.
