Sekinchan Prawn Noodles @ Mee Udang King Original
Sungai Nibong, Sekinchan, Selangor, Malaysia - August 2017
Sekinchan these days is getting rather crowded with local tourists thronging to have a short holiday during the weekends. So it is understandable that most of the foodie outlets will be packed during the weekends. Sure there are many seafood outlets both new and old to cater for the visitors; but somehow I find that these days the standards seem to have dropped.
So, alternatively if one is looking for some good food at Sekinchan, move away from the town and head slightly north, like what we did one time when we went to a Sungai Limau to have very good seafood at Chong Thai Restuarant.
This time round we were cycling from Kuala Lumpur to Penang and instead of having lunch at Sekinchan we went slightly further (about 25km further) to have nice mee udang (prawn noodles) at Mee Udang King Original at Sungai Nibong.

The prawn noodles here is served rebus style, i.e. boiled noodles with gravy. One can choose the type of noodles, i.e. keow teow (flat rice noodles), bee hoon, or mee. We went for the mee (yellow noodles). Ordering three plates of the usual and three plates of the "Special" which comes with big prawns.
The above is the usual, but note that we had taken some of the big prawns and put it here for size comparison. The usual prawns are the one at the top right.

The special is served in a nice porcelain dish. Coming with four to five large prawns, served with a poached egg and a sprinkling of coriander.

Close up, the noodles really does look delicious, and the prawns so tempting!
We had eaten here a couple of times before; previously I did not quite like their gravy, finding it to sugary sweet. But they have improved, the gravy is now less sugary sweet and more prawny flavoured. And instead of just boiling the prawns, now these are dipped in a thin batter and given some light deep frying.

YummY! One nicely peeled prawn looking very fresh, and it was making it all the more tasty!

Very satisfied customers.... drank the gravy till the last drop!

Sekinchan Porridge @ Sekinchan Market Food Court

Sekinchan, Selangor, Malaysia - August 2017
It's the second day of our  cycling tour from Sungai Buloh to Penang, early in the morning we went a-looking for some good breakfast in Sekinchan where we had stayed for the night. We ended up at Restaurant Sin Ming Kee.

All termed a restaurant, this place is actually a food court; several hawkers vend their food within its opened walls and zinc roofed space. The hawkers are at the perimeter edge while sitting for patrons are at the centre. This fellow here is the hawker for the porridge; he sells several combinations to his customers' preferences - pork, pork tripe, fish, chicken or a mixed of these.
Sin Sing Kee is quiet easy to locate, there are just a block away from the Sekinchan Wet Market.

Some of us had dry wanton noodles, while most of us went for the porridge. I had a combo of fish, pork and pork tongue. It came looking quite bare, with all the ingredients hidden at the bottom while at the top was garnishing of cut spring onions, ginger strips and a dash of soy sauce with sesame oil. Finicky me requested for more cut spring onions, it's good for the digestion and also made the dish look better.

The way to eat this is to start stirring so that all the top and bottom ingredients, including the sauces and oil, are mixed thoroughly into the porridge.

And here we are, all nicely mixed ready for me do dig in. The porridge itself although bland looking was quite flavourful as it had been cooked with the soup of the boiled chicken, pork and tripe. Thin slices of raw fish had been added in just before the hot gruel was adden on top.
Tastewise it was good, with the meat and sauces adding their flavours IN. No complaints here as it was a simple but good breakfast.

We also order some soft boiled eggs; these came out perfect!
