Central Asian Art: Colourful Lamps
Central Asia - May 2026
During our
Central Asia 2026 Tour, we saw beautiful, colourful lamps, some of which are presented here.
Flush-mounted pendant chandelier installed on a rich kundal (gilded relief-painted) ceiling. Seen at Uzbekistan State Museum of Applied Arts in Tashkent.

The above and following ceiling lights seen at Navat Restaurant in Almaty. Multi-lantern tiered chandelier with exotic pierced metalwork with intricate filigree cutouts, and frosted glass.

filigree metal lattice work.
Tubeteika-style (skullcap) teapot warmer at Navat Restaurant in Almaty. Okay, this is not a lighting, but I found it cute; it covers the teapot to keep the tea warm.
Hollow dome chandelier.

On a recent holiday tour of Morocco, we got to see beautiful Fanoos (Moroccan Lamps) at the restaurants we ate at, and at the riads we stayed in. These lamps are beautifully made and intricately hand-crafted. They are available in many shapes and colorful designs, and light up the space in different moods, casting beautiful shadows too.
