PENANG CURRY MEE NOODLE @ SIN LEE HIN COFFEE SHOP
Tanjong Bungah, Penang, Malaysia - October 2012
On a recent trip to Penang, I went to Sin Hin Lee coffee shop in Tanjong Bungah. We nicknamed this place "The Land Of The Giants" as the drinks vendors shout out in loud voices like those of giants when calling out the drink orders. No mikes required as their loud voices easily carry over the cacophony of their patrons - "Coffee Black! Two!"
Sin Hin Lee is a coffee shop that serves many hawker-street fare such as Penang Hokkein Prawn Mee, Chee Cheong Fun, Keow Teow Theng, etc. Today I am having Curry Mee Noodles ala Penang. Curry mee is Chinese yellow noodle and vermicili served in curry soup with bean sprouts, tau pok, prawns, cockles and garnished with mint leaves.
The first thing you notice when the mee is served is the coagulated pig's blood. If curry mee is without this then it is not Penang Curry Mee. The other distinct thing is it's curry soup, it has more diluted santan (coconut milk) but is some how more tasty as the spices and their style of cooking brings out the taste.
With a good aroma tempting me , I slurp the first mouthful. The noodles in the tasty soup tickled my taste bud and I slurped further. The curry soaked into the tau pok made them softer and chewy good. The pig;s blood was a tad to hard, perhaps they did not add enough water when coagulating it.
But overall, YummY! No complains here and I would recommend it any time.
At RM3-00 for a bowl, the price is super reasonable, Penang food is so affordable.

Sin Lee Hin Coffee Shop is located at the corner shop-house of Menara Asas podium and is near the new Tanjong Bungah market. Menaara Asas is a noticeable blue & red 10-storey building just off Jalan Tanjong Bungah, on the left if one is heading towards Batu Ferringhi.
