Ipoh Art Street Murals 2022
Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia - April 2022
We were up in Ipoh for some cycling and on the second afternoon went riding along the Kinta River. To kick of the ride we went on a short loop at Ipoh Mrual Street. This is a back-alley that runs parallel to Jalan Masjid; between Jalan Laxamana & Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar. A good landmark will be the beautifully unique Masjid Panglima Kinta, where there are ample parking.

I had previously, about eight years ago visited and blogged about this Ipoh Street Murals in 2014. Back then many of the murals were freshly painted - bright and beautiful. However, time and weather have not been kind to these paintings and may are now faded or the wall plaster chipped off.

Some are still okay, like the ones of children playing Hide n Seek.

The new ones are very colourful; like the above that portrays the dhoby wallahs who use to do manual dhoby washing at Jalan Sibilin of Old Ipoh. The animals from the Ipoh Circus decided to come help out and play too. How many of the animals do you see?
(seal, magic rabbit, grizzly bear and a lion)

This mural forms a permanent advertisement for the circus, with the animals colorfully & cheerfully attractive! And my two cycling buddies joining in the fun!

The zoo animals join local children in blowing soap bubbles..... er soap stars!
What animals do you see?
(from left: Pangolin (scaly anteater), bear, orangutan, tiger, mousedeer and Malayan Tapir)

Others showcase Perak as a tin capital with tin-mining ladies playfully splashing water with their dulangs onto the circus animals. Aiks! These animals have happily taken leave from the circus and encroached onto this mural!

Button floral art.

Cartoonish mummified pharaoh.

Even red stairs and red folding grilles can be a work of art!

Floral elephants, a mother and baby elephants. The patterns use to make up the elephants make one recalls of the Indian kolams.

A message from the environmentalists - "Use less plastic", showing a humpback whale being trapped in a giant plastic bag! It's appropriately next to a "DILARANG MEMBUANG SAMPAH" signage; i.e. "DO NOT LITTER"
The crown-like sculpture in the "photo" is called the "Jewel of Perak" that can be seen at the Sultan Yusuf Roundabout.

Fish-headed people. Not sure what is the significance of this though.

Rainbow coloured Siamese Fighting Fishes, with a colourful cyclist amongst them!

An attractive Red Bull, perhaps a mascot of the Perak Kuchai Culture & Arts Association.

A tigress feeding her cubs, aptly titled "Full Love".
Mrs. AhPek Biker, feels the tigress is friendly enough to pose with 😉.

From interesting animals we move on to the larger murals; above is a psychedelic one of city towns-cape.

Children on a skipping rope!
Slightly faded .....

..... but still a draw for visitors!

Aiks! my friend seems to be cycling backwards in the above animation photo, there seems to be a glitch when preparing animated photos with Google Photos, or perhaps this old man using it wrongly 😂.
In the background is an artistic extension of the renown Ipoh Paper Aeroplane Mural.

Some holiday greetings mural, starting with balloons welcoming the 2020 New Year.

A Hari Raya Aidilfitri mural card.

A beautifully rendered Deepavali/Diwali mural card .....

..... is supported by a couple of Indian dancers!

..... and a Meeeeeeery Christmas!

We DO Love Ipoh!
