MEAT FLOSS BISCUITS @ CHING HAN GUAN
Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia - 9th February, 2013
Whenever I am up in Ipoh, I try not to fail buying one of my favorites - Kaya Puffs (see Fluffy Kaya Puffs). I was up on a trip to Kampar to attend a cycling event (see UTAR Ride 4 Charity) and went slightly northwards to Ipoh to savor its renown Chicken Hor Fun. Stomach well filled with the hor fun, I popped by to get the kaya puffs. My friend who was up with me was like "Hey! Ipoh has more to offer, I'll show you".

Off we went over to the nearby (Ipoh is not very big, so everything is fairly nearby) Ching Han Guan Biscuit Shop. This place sells all sorts of biscuits, but it's flagship is their Meat Floss Biscuit.

The shop interior looked very traditional - very warm and welcoming with all sorts of biscuits displayed in shelves and giant bottles.

Our attention was quite focused on the meat floss biscuits. The original flavored ones are selling at RM16-80 for a box of twelve.

There is also the Pandan ones going for the same price.

On my friend's recommendation, I got the ones with the salted duck eggs. These were more expensive at RM22-00 for a box of ten.

The inside of these were filled with pork meat floss, the finely shredded dried pork which is sweet and slightly salty. The skin was brittly flaky, nice to bite into.
This variety has a salted egg yolk inside, that's why it costs more as salted eggs don't come cheap these days.

The old man manning the shop was friendly and explained that the shop has been around for over sixty years. He even allowed me to take photos of his bakery at the rear of the shop.

On his recommendation, I got these egg biscuits too.

These were crunchy melt-in-the-mouth good! Just nicely sweet and the roasted cashew nut topped up the flavor.

Meanwhile at the rear, a worker was filling meat floss into the rolled up pastry dough.

Pastry dough, rolled many times in layers to achieve that flaky fluffiness.
