Belgian Art At Brussels
Brussels, Belgium - September 2017
Tintin on a steam train locomotive - large wall mural poster at the Bruxelles Central Train Station.
On a cycling tour of Europe, we spent a few days in Brussels, the capital of Belgium and took the opportunity to cycle around the city. It's a lively city and we managed to catch sight of some Belgian artwork, serious paintings, sculptures and even light-heartening street art. These here are some of the artwork we saw at the city, enjoy!
Do note that these are photos below gives a representation of what I saw; but nothing beats going there to see them for yourselves.

The dome of the Palais de Justice (Palace of Justice), the building was under renovation but fortunately the dome was still visible. On top of the dome is a large golden crown.

The following were stained glass mosaic windows we saw at the National Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Koekelberg (Basilique Nationale du Sacré-Cœur à Koekelberg):
This large wall was behind the altar, and showed Jesus and various Catholic saints.

The second miracle, the "Feeding of the 4,000", with seven loaves of bread and fish.
These and the following two were were designed by Belgian painter Anto Carte (1886–1954).

"Last Supper"
With his back turned towards Jesus is Judas Iscariot, and could that be Mary Magdalene leaning on Jesus's right shoulder?

The Ascension of Jesus.

Medieval wedding ceremony. In front of the painting are statues of a family all dressed up to go for Sunday Mass - oil on canvas painting at Sint-Jan En Stefaan Ter Minimen (Church of Saint Jean and Etienne aux Minimes).

A light-hearted painting of a female musketeer seducing a kitchen maid - water colour painting from a stall at the Marché aux puces des Marolles (Marlolles Flea Market) where one can find some good bargains on paintings, sculptures, furnitures, etc.

The following five artwork were seen at the Au Coin Gourmand restaurant:
Oil painting of a hunting dog sniffing at a table of game from a hunt.

Copper tooling bust of Peter Paul Ruebens.

Brown monochrome stylized  painting of an owl.

Oil painting of a flower market at the Grand Place (Brussels Town Square).

Contemporary tapestry of Madonna and Child Jesus.
The style of artwork reminds me of art pieces from the Ivatan of the Batanes in Philippines and the Taiwanese Aborigines at Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan.

St. Theresa on a small altar - porcelain statue at Sint-Jan En Stefaan Ter Minimen (Church of Saint Jean and Etienne aux Minimes).

Everard t'Serclae Monument - composite artwork bronze statues set against a marble panel with engraved artwork and words; artwork by Julien Dillens at Rue Charle Bul.

Everard t'Serclae as a knight on a horse, at the top of the monument.
He was the lord of Kruikenburg, was a citizen of Brussels, who was made famous by his recovery of the city from the Flemings.

At the bottom, Everard t'Serclae lies reposed. It is said among locals that the statue brings luck and grants the wishes of all who touch it. Many tourists touch (or rather rub) the statue, particularly the arm, because legend has it that rubbing the arm will ensure one's return to Brussels.
