RICE FACTORY @ SEKINCHAN
Sekinchan, Selangor, Malaysia - May 2014
During a recent riding adventure in Sekinchan we did more than just cycle; we visited some of the local industries there. Some are cottage industries like the Dong XinYong Tau Foo factory and prawn cracker factory run by locals. But this one, a rice factory, is a large commercial concern.

The rice factory is housed in a large white clad building that sits quite conspicuously amid the flat padi fields of Sekinchan.

Certain areas of the factory is opened to the public to visit and learn something about rice processing. The entrance to the building is a large parking area; an air-conditioned showroom is to the left.

But do not be fooled by the tour buses parked here. This is an actual operating factory, a proper rice mill. At larger sections closed off from the public, rice is being processed and packed for sending out to wholesalers. A trailer can be seen above going through a weigh bridge before leaving the factory for it's destination.

A tractor delivering unprocessed rice.

A padi seedling planting machine can be see at. The trays of seedling actually goes to a rear dispensing array.

The showroom is air-conditioned. It's more like a sales room as one can purchase rice or rice-related products here.

For those who want to try out their rice, the following types of rice can be bought in 2 kg. pack. They are vacuum packed and pricing (at time of this blog) is indicated respectively.
Japanese Pearl White Rice at RM13/= per pack.

Japanese Pearl Brown Rice at RM15/= per pack.

Healthy Brown Rice at RM10/= kg. per pack.

Souvenir packs (a pack of three types of rice) can be bought for RM12/=.

One of their brands of rice "Sekinchan Best" is sold at RM26/= per 10 kg. pack.

Mee Sua sold at Rm12/= per 800 gms pack.
These are actually made from wheat flour.

Many other products are also available here; some are rice related. Please be reminded that pricing show is at time of the blog.
Pineapple Pastry at RM12/= per box of twelve.

Crackers of various types are available - Shrimp Cracker, Spring Onion Cracker, etc. There are also those of different flavours, eg. Pineapple, Taro, Mango, etc. Pricing is as shown in photo above.

Another look at the crackers.

For immediate consumption, Pearl Brown Rice Dessert Drinks.

Colourfully cute Pearl Rice Lollipop at RM2/= each.

Ice Cream Potong of Orange, Strawberry, Longan, Corn and Vanilla Flavours.

Close up look of the Ice-cream Potong. The ice-cream is encased in a cylindrical plastic container with a plunger to push up the ice-cream while it is being eaten; so no worries of melting ice-cream dripping.

A guided tour of the factory is available. Tickets can be bought at RM4-00 at a ticketing office, after the tour this ticket can be used to redeem a packet of rice worth RM4-00 at the ticketing office.
The tour includes explanation on rice cultivation in a briefing room at the first floor.

Visitors are then taken to a window which overlooks the rice is processed and packed.

The tour ends with a visit to rice museum (also on the first floor) where early days equipment for harvesting and processing rice are on display.
